Evolving a model of transaction management with embedded concurrency control for mobile database systems

چکیده

Transactions within a mobile database management system face many restrictions. These cannot afford unlimited delays or participate in multiple retry attempts for execution. The proposed embedded concurrency control (ECC) techniques provide support on three counts, namely—to enhance concurrency, to overcome problems due to heterogeneity, and to allocate priority to transactions that originate from mobile hosts. These proposed ECC techniques can be used to enhance the server capabilities within a mobile database management system. Adoption of the techniques can be beneficial in general, and for other special cases of transaction management in distributed real-time database management systems. The proposed model can be applied to other similar problems related to synchronization, such as the generation of a backup copy of an operational database system. q 2003 Elsevier Science B.V. Evolving a model of transaction management with concurrency control for multilevel secure distributed real-time database systems

The concurrency control in distributed database management systems is an important research problem. Several concurrency control algorithms have been proposed for secure distributed real time database systems, and several have been and are being implemented. Most of the concurrency control algorithms are the variations of the following basic techniques: Two-Phase Locking, Timestamp Ordering and...

Concurrency Control and Recovery for Transactions in Cooperative Design Environments

Non-standard database applications like design environments or office automation require advanced transaction concepts. The inability of traditional transactions [2] to support such applications has already been observed by [6] and was the motivation for the development of a number of non-standard transaction models (for an overview, see [1] or [5]). Our work focuses on transaction management i...

Layered Approach to Transaction Management in Multidatabase Systems

With the proliferation of distributed computing, there arises a need for a new generation of database systems to support complex object manipulation and multimedia applications while preserving interworking with existing applications. The autonomy of these heterogeneous systems implies that the synchronisation and management of distributed transactions have become an important issue. An archite...

On Optimistic Methods for Mobile Transactions

We propose a new transaction execution model in a mobile environment where a subset of data items is cached by each mobile host. This execution model allows each mobile host to execute transactions locally and, before their commits, to request certification from the database server on the wired network. The database server certifies a commit request only when the execution of its pertaining tra...

Evaluation of Concurrency Control Schemes on Distributed Systems

Concurrency on a massive scale is required to meet the needs of today’s increasingly distributed systems. To better understand how current concurrency control schemes work on distributed systems, this paper reports an evaluation of concurrency control schemes for online transaction processing (OLTP) workloads on distributed database management systems (DBMS) with a variable number of nodes. Fiv...
